Hello parents and students!

Welcome to Team 7B! I am looking forward to working closely with each of you with the purpose of helping you achieve your personal best as an academic as well as a leader!

Happy first 2 weeks of school! It has been a very busy start for us all!
We are starting off the school year with a very busy yet productive first few weeks.
I know many of you are aware of our schedule but I would just like to reiterate and give you a simple breakdown for your calendars.

8/30 Regular B-day
8/31 National Guard Team building-outside all day!
9/1 National Guard Team building-outside all day!
9/2 Regular A-day
9/3 Rock wall-outside all day!

9/8 Benchmark Testing- Special Bell schedule- Early Release!
9/9 Benchmark Testing- Special Bell schedule
9/10 Benchmark Testing- Special Bell schedule

During these two weeks, students have been informed to work on Compass Odyssey for an hour each week. Each Friday, your time and progress will be recorded.
Sixty minutes a week is required until the student has completed all math files assigned. At this time, students should be working in the MJ II folder.

Here is a summary of our first week in Pre-Algebra and Algebra.
We have discussed and practiced our Rituals and Routines during math class and Team Time. We organized our binders in class just as they should be kept for the remainder of the school year. These binders will be checked for a grade each quarter. The reason is that organization at this level and beyond is critical for keeping track of notes, assignments, assessments and other essential items. Organization saves time for students, builds confidence and reduces stress!!!
Which we ALL need!

Pre-Algebra students are reviewing all operations of integers.
Algebra students are reviewing order of operations, distributive property and combining like terms.

Students have received homework each night in the form of worksheets.

A little bit about Ms. Hamlow:

I am a National Board Certified teacher with 12 years experience in Middle School Math. I have taught Gifted students for 5 years and enjoy teaching students of all levels! I lived in Dubai for 14 months. While residing there, I drove on the Palm Island, toured the Burj Al Arab Hotel, dined at 6 star restaurants, skied in Ski Dubai, shopped at the Mall of Emirates and swam in the Arabian Sea. However the most rewarding experience was teaching autistic children to communicate and socialize through Behavior Therapy. Last summer I hiked and practiced yoga in the Himalayas’ in India. I have climbed pyramids in Cairo, Egypt, touched real live hieroglyphics and rode a camel! I have had quite a fortunate life in traveling! My dream is to travel more! Perhaps somewhere in Europe next time!

I am learning how to play tennis and trying to get back into running!

Extra hats that I wear at school that keep me crazy busy:
Yoga Club
Math Field Day Coach
Best Buddies Advisor
Wellness Ambassador
Team Leader

Wheeeew! I am exhausted just mentioning it!

Again, I look forward to getting to know you better and helping you through any challenges you may face this year as a 7th grade math student!

Sincerely,

Ms. Hamlow
