Congratulations go out to our 6th graders for two very important events.
First, I am so proud of the work that our team has done in helping to raise awareness and products for children in need. Many students took the lead in a variety of ways. We had a student collect from a Publix manager. We had students in the car rider's zone in the morning and afternoon gathering collections. For our morning and afternoon announcements, several students produced a skit to raise awareness and another created a powerful, heartfelt power point presentation. I am so excited to see what all of our students come up with for their leadership program next year and in the 8th grade. I know it is going to be amazing!!!!
Second, BIG. BIG, BIG congratulations go out to all of the 6th graders here at Julia Landon for coming in FIRST place in Duval County on their Math FCAT this year! We have pushed them hard and they have WORKED hard! Please take the time to truly commend your child for the fabulous efforts they put forth this year.
I am going to miss this great 6th grade bunch but I will get to see some of you again next year because I am going to the 7th grade! YAAAAY!!!!!

May 26-29 and Islands of Adventure!
All classes:
This week we are reviewing for our Final Exam which will be taken on Friday. Please study reference sheets, quizzes, tests and focus on the concepts that you find most challenging to YOU! You will work in class with a partner on the Exam Review. This review cannot be taken home!
5/29 Good Luck students on your FINAL EXAM! You have worked very hard this year! You are way overdue your summer break!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Counting down the days....Next Thursday, June 4th, is our fieldtrip to Islands of Adventure! woooo-hooooo!!!!
Remember the buses leave at 7:00 a.m. so please be sure to have your child in the bus loading zone on the Minerva side of the school no later than 6:45. It takes about 15 minutes to get everyone settled on the buses and to call roll. If students are not on the bus by 7:00 we have to assume that they are sick or your plans have changed.
We return at 8:30 p.m. Please be there to pick up your child on time so that the teacher chaperones can go home too! We will have had a long, exhausting day and we will have to be back at school Friday morning bright and early!
As always...THANK YOU PARENTS for all you do and for having such great children!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We love em'! :)
Helping Children in our Community!
Thank you so much to families and students for helping our 6th grade team to collect nonperishable foods and personal hygiene products. I have had my heart strings tugged on several times these past couple of weeks with all of the clever ideas the students have come up with. If they follow through and get the support they are asking for, we will receive donations from Fire Stations, Winn Dixie, TGIF, COSTCO and other parent's employers. We are all very excited to see how much we can collect!
Time is running out though. We have until this Friday. A few students have volunteered to collect items at the car rider line in the a.m. and p.m. so you don't have to come into the building.
Again, we appreciate all that you have done to support our students and faculty during our first year as a College Prep and Leadership school!
Sincerely,
Ms. Hamlow
~Helping Children in our Community~
Hello Team C!!!
WORK HARD, PLAY HARD!!!! It is hard to believe that EOC's are next week, Final Exams the next! All of us will definitely be ready to relax and enjoy all of the fun to be had at Island's of Adventure on June 4th!!! You deserve it TEAM C! We pushed you hard this year with two goal's in mind...to prepare you for the rigorous 7th grade and to teach a strong work ethic which you will need the rest of your life!
Your teachers have one more task for you this year before we say farewell. Throughout the year you have witnessed the roles the 7th and 8th graders have taken to raise awareness to specific groups in need both globally and within our community. Your teachers witnessed YOU wanting to be a part of it. Sooooo, we thought it would be a great way to end your 6th grade year with a bang by taking part in your own community service. I have already spoken to you about helping Children in our Community. Your repsonse was very overwhelming!!! You all have very big hearts and lots of passion for helping others. This speaks volumes for you and your family! You are an amazing group!
Please come to Math class prepared with ideas, boxes, donations, and any other items you think you will need in order to make posters, flyers, announcements, etc. We want to raise as much as we can for children who need our support!
Remember this is all student lead...we are a LEADERSHIP school and want you students to do all of the organizing and preparation!
I wish you lots of success at reaching your goals! I look forward to seeing how much you can raise together as one big 6th grade team!!!!
Love, Ms. Hamlow
